Vijay’s London Fan Event Cancelled Over Safety Concerns as Hundreds Gather at The Shard

Vijay’s planned public appearance in London was cancelled after Metropolitan Police raised crowd-safety concerns, leaving hundreds of fans gathered outside The Shard disappointed.

A planned public appearance by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician Vijay in London was cancelled after the Metropolitan Police raised concerns about crowd safety.

Hundreds of Vijay’s fans had gathered outside The Shard, one of London’s most recognisable landmarks, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister during his UK visit. Some supporters had reportedly been waiting for several hours.

Event Called Off at the Last Minute

Vijay’s team announced the cancellation to the waiting crowd through a loudspeaker, citing public safety concerns and the absence of the required police permission.

The announcement left many supporters disappointed after they had gathered at the venue expecting to meet or see Vijay.

The cancellation followed the intervention of the London Metropolitan Police, which raised concerns over the size of the crowd and safety arrangements around the proposed appearance.

TVK Urges Fans Not to Wait Outside Hotel

Following the cancellation, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) IT wing appealed to supporters not to attempt to meet Vijay at his hotel or wait along his travel routes.

The party’s message said the decision was taken with public safety in mind and in response to the request from the London Metropolitan Police. Supporters were specifically asked not to gather outside the hotel where Vijay was staying.

The appeal came after the large gathering outside The Shard demonstrated the level of interest among Vijay’s supporters during his UK visit.

Vijay in UK for Investment Outreach

Vijay is currently in the UK leading a Tamil Nadu government delegation focused on attracting investment to the state.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, several memoranda of understanding involving investments of around ₹12,300 crore were signed during the visit. The proposed investments are expected to generate more than 9,400 high-value jobs, officials said.

The investment outreach is aimed at strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position in advanced manufacturing and technology.

While the London fan event did not go ahead, Vijay’s UK visit has continued to focus on the state government’s investment efforts.

For the fans who had gathered outside The Shard, however, the visit ended with disappointment after the much-anticipated public appearance was cancelled on safety grounds.
